Trent Byquist, Attorney

Dedicated Lawyer in Saline County & Throughout Kansasundefined

Trent represents clients as both an advisor and an advocate. He devotes a substantial portion of his practice to assisting individuals and businesses with transactional matters, including business entity formation and planning, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, real estate matters, estate planning, franchising and dealership issues, licensing, leasing, financing, and bankruptcy and creditors’ rights. When disputes do arise, Trent helps clients resolve them in an effective and cost-efficient manner. This often includes private negotiation, mediation, or arbitration. But if it’s necessary, Trent represents his clients in litigation in both state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Trent guides his clients through all stages of the litigation process from the initial filing of an action to appeals.

Although Trent’s practice spans a wide range of areas, he has particular experience representing clients in connection with issues unique to Kansas’ rural communities and economy. This includes counseling Kansans on matters related to agriculture, water rights, energy production, and financing these concerns. His clients have included individuals, landowners, trusts and beneficiaries, public entities, family farms and ranches, agribusinesses, agricultural cooperatives, feedlots, implement dealers, oil and gas producers, and community banks and credit unions. He understands that rural clients require sophisticated and cost-effective representation, and he continually strives to meet and exceed his clients’ expectations in this regard.

Before joining Kennedy Berkley, Trent practiced law in Wichita at Kansas’ largest law firm, where he primarily represented businesses and financial institutions. Before that, he served for two years as a law clerk for the Honorable Lawton R. Nuss, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Kansas.

Trent was born in Salina and graduated from Salina Central. He graduated summa cum laude from Kansas State University in 2010 and Order of the Coif (top 10%) from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2013. During law school, Trent received multiple academic accolades, including the William L. Burdick Prize, membership on the Kansas Law Review, first place in KU’s moot court competition, the UMB Excellence in Estate Planning Award, and CALI Awards for earning the highest grade in the following courses: Land Transactions, Agriculture Law, Water Law, Corporate Finance, Pension & Employee Benefits Law, and Lawyering Skills.

When he’s not working, Trent enjoys golfing and experiencing Kansas history and culture.
